Hi everyone! Today I’m going to talk about naturopathic solutions for the common cold. Let’s start with water therapy. When you’re in the shower, it’s breaking up the congestion within your lungs. Another way to add to your hot shower is to use Bronner’s eucalyptus oil wash or peppermint wash.
Here is what I recommend:
A neti pot is a nasal lavage that you pour into each nostril and the contents come out the opposite nostril. A neti pot is my second recommendation that is actually going to moisten the nasal concha. This is your first line of defense. It is the first line meaning that viruses, bacteria, all those things are coming in when you’re inhaling. You need to keep it moist so that it can catch the bacteria.

Even when you’re having just a chest cold, it makes you tired and weak. Hydration is another thing that actually works on the nasal conchae as well as a first-line defense. If you’re breathing through your mouth, it needs to stay moist so that the bacteria can be captured.
When you’re sleeping, your body is healing itself. Between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m., you need to be asleep. This is when your body makes the master hormone called melatonin, which helps your body heal itself.
There’s a reason why grandma used to make you chicken soup. I have some specific ingredients that I like for homemade chicken soup:
- One, you need to use the whole chicken. We need the bone. Bone broth has marrow in it which has healing properties in it.
- Number two, you need to add garlic. Garlic is antiviral, antibacterial.
- You need to add mushrooms, which are anti-inflammatory.
- I like carrots added in there for vitamin A as well. I add lots of herbs, like an Italian blend.
I love essential oils, but tea tree oil is specifically for cold and flu. You’re going to drop a few drops in a diffuser and it’s going to break down bacteria. It’s very inexpensive and something that you can just do while you’re working in your office or while you’re at home.
